What this means
A control needs a name explaining its action, available to reading software. If words are visible on the control, those words should be included in its spoken name so people can use voice commands.
Passing examples
- A button says 'Send enquiry' and reading software calls it 'Send enquiry'.
- A magnifying-glass button is named 'Search'.
- An image link is named 'Download the timetable', explaining its action.
Failing examples
- An icon button is announced only as 'button'.
- A visible 'Book now' button has the unrelated spoken name 'Continue'.
- An image link is named 'arrow.png' instead of describing its destination.
