What this means
Link words should explain where the link goes or what it opens. Nearby wording can provide context, but the reader should not have to guess. Downloads should have a useful name and file type.
Passing examples
- 'Download the membership guide (PDF)' opens the membership guide.
- 'Read about delivery charges' opens the delivery information.
- An event card clearly identifies 'Summer workshop', and its 'Read more' link has that event name included in the name read by reading software.
Failing examples
- Several unrelated links say 'Click here', without nearby information explaining their destinations.
- A link called 'Membership guide' opens a different document.
- A download link is named 'file-002-final-v3' with no explanation of its contents.
